The need to know how to use fire extinguishers, is both a moral & legal requirement.
The level of training staff require, depends on the workplace premises, the size of premises & occupancy characteristics of the premises. As such, all fire wardens shall be required to be suitably trained to legal standards.


How many Fire Wardens do I need?

We have heard & continue to read many differing opinions on the numbers of Fire Wardens required.
Some are sensible, but many are just downright stupid.

Guidance for many premises Fire Warden details below:

1. 1x trained & certified fire warden (per floor) +
2. 1x trained & certified fire warden (per storey exit) or,
3. 1x trained & certified fire warden (per storey stairwell) &
4. 1x trained & certified fire warden (per back up of each) @ above...!

Naturally numbers increase in floor levels and fire escape routes.
The larger organisations that require fire wardens by staff numbers, will have on-site H&S.
Therefore, for the majority of you that do not have on-site H&S, the above numbers will assist you.
